Marshall Health Network expands occupational medicine, primary care services in Mason County

GALLIPOLIS FERRY, W.Va. – Marshall Health Network celebrated the expansion of occupational medicine and primary care services in Mason County with a ribbon cutting and open house Thursday. The co-located clinics at 15167 Huntington Road, along Route 2 in Gallipolis Ferry, include Marshall Occupational Medicine and Rivers Health Family Medicine.

The newly opened Marshall Occupational Medicine clinic offers services tailored to meet the needs of local employers, including pre-employment and regulatory physicals, drug and alcohol testing, work-related injury care, return-to-work evaluations, onsite x-rays and more. The addition of these services brings convenient, specialized care to businesses and contractors throughout the region.

“This new clinic represents our commitment to the health and well-being of Mason County’s growing workforce,” said Adam M. Franks, M.D., professor and chair of family and community health and vice dean for rural health at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “By offering dedicated occupational medicine services close to home, we’re helping employers prioritize employee health while streamlining access.”

Rivers Health Family Medicine opened its clinic in Gallipolis Ferry in November 2024. Nurse Practitioner Patricia Hanes, FNP-C, now joins Hannah Leport, M.D., a board-certified family medicine physician, in providing primary care for patients of all ages. Services include well and sick visits, chronic disease management and walk-in pediatric care, available Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The addition of occupational medicine services to the existing family medicine practice represents a strategic enhancement of Marshall Health Network’s service offerings.

“We recognized that integrating occupational medicine services with primary care creates a more holistic approach to community wellness,” said Justin Turner, chief operating officer of Rivers Health. “This integration allows us to provide comprehensive care that addresses both workplace injuries and overall health maintenance under one roof.” Turner noted that the expansion directly responds to the needs expressed by local employers and workers in the region’s growing industries.

Community leaders and Marshall Health Network representatives gathered for the celebration, which included a ceremonial ribbon cutting, facility tours and meet and greet with providers.
