The Values of Nursing

At Marshall Cardiology, we use the acronym TIC3R to sum up our core values, which are teamwork, integrity, caring, compassion, commitment and respect. These values have shaped my nursing career and influenced my personal life. The way we interact with each other matters. The words we speak, the attention we give, and the work we do all matter. Connecting with someone can profoundly change their experience.
As a research manager, I participate in meaningful and innovative clinical trials and independent research that benefit both our staff and patients by advancing the field and improving patient outcomes. Knowing that a patient has benefited from a medical device or new medication that might not have been possible without research is extremely rewarding. As a bonus, I develop relationships with some patients that go beyond study completion. Seeing them out in the community and getting updates on their life is a blessing.
Throughout my career, I have often been asked to “fill in the gap” by taking on various roles and responsibilities. This has afforded me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and roles in different settings. I am fortunate to work with a fantastic group of providers and clinical staff, and at times, mentor individuals from diverse backgrounds who dedicate their time and effort to caring for the community.
As a nurse, I take pride in my profession and am thankful for those who have mentored me or have been an inspiration along the way. No matter what your nursing career looks like, nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system. Whether in a hospital, clinic, home or school, we all contribute to providing care, educating, advocating or simply listening.
You never know what someone is going through, so try to make the connection, show compassion and always choose kindness.
