FaithHealth Appalachia, Marshall Health Network announce AED grant recipients
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – FaithHealth Appalachia, in partnership with Marshall Health Network, has announced the recipients of its automated external defibrillator (AED) distribution program across Cabell, Mason and Wayne counties.
An AED is a portable medical device used to assist individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It analyzes the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, delivers an electric shock—known as defibrillation—to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. Each of more than 90 organizations selected received a LIFEPAK CR2 AED by Stryker, known for its ease of use, real-time readiness monitoring and Wi-Fi connectivity, which allows for continuous monitoring and readiness. Each organization will also be trained on installation and use of their AED by the St. Mary’s Regional Heart Institute.
“I am deeply proud to witness so many community organizations across Cabell, Mason and Wayne counties receive lifesaving AEDs,” said Rory Chapman, director of FaithHealth Appalachia. “This initiative represents the power of collaboration and our shared commitment to protecting every neighbor. With new AEDs, organizations will now have vital tools and the training to respond to cardiac emergencies swiftly. Our goal today is simple: strengthen our communities and save lives along the way. We’re grateful for the congressional support and the dedication of all our partners making this vision a reality.”
Funded through congressionally-directed support from U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito and former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III, the initiative aims to improve cardiac emergency preparedness by placing life-saving devices in high-traffic public and faith-based spaces.
“AEDs can mean the difference between life and death, and it’s one of the reasons I was proud to use my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee to secure a CDS award that supports this initiative to get these life-saving devices in more spaces throughout the region,” Senator Capito said. “Expanding access to AEDs will ensure our communities are prepared in the event of cardiac emergencies, especially in high-risk areas like on the sidelines and at practices where young West Virginians are participating in sports and activities,”
Device distribution and training was conducted July 21 for Cabell and Wayne County grant recipients. Mason County organizations will receive their devices and training on August 12.
