Infectious disease expert Jennifer Hanrahan, DO, brings leadership, specialized care to Marshall Health Network, Marshall School of Medicine

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. Jennifer Hanrahan, D.O., M.Sc., brings more than two decades of clinical and academic experience to her role as professor and chair of the department of internal medicine at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. A board-certified, fellowship-trained infectious disease specialist, Hanrahan now sees patients at Marshall Internal Medicine locations in Huntington and Teays Valley, providing expert care alongside a seasoned team of infectious disease providers serving patients across the region.  

Hanrahan specializes in diagnosing and managing complex infectious diseases, including HIV, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and challenging or recurrent infections of the bloodstream, bones, joints and heart. She and her colleagues also provide expertise in antibiotic-resistant infections, adult immunizations for patients with weakened immune systems, preventive care for international travelers and consultative support for primary care and hospital-based physicians to ensure coordinated care. 

In addition to her clinical practice, Hanrahan serves as professor and chair of internal medicine at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. In this leadership role, she is focused on advancing medical education, research and community health initiatives that align with the school’s mission and its Centers of Wellness. 

Hanrahan earned her medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, and completed her internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has held faculty and leadership positions at Case Western Reserve University, the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences in Toledo, Ohio, and most recently as chief of infectious diseases and director of the infectious diseases fellowship program at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.
