Marshall Health welcomes hand and upper-extremity specialist Dr. Mohammad Hammad

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Mohammad Hammad, M.D., joins Marshall Health Network and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, bringing expertise in hand and upper-extremity surgery to its highly specialized orthopaedic care team.  

Hammad provides advanced, compassionate care for patients with complex conditions of the fingers, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. His expertise spans arthritic conditions and reconstruction, hand and upper extremity trauma, microsurgical reconstruction of the hand and wrist, arthroscopic surgery of the wrist, shoulder and upper extremity and the management of nerve compression syndromes.  

Hammad earned his medical degree from Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences in Jamshoro, Pakistan. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar, followed by fellowships in orthopedic spine surgery at HMC and Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar, orthopedic sports medicine at Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, and hand and microsurgery at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.  

An assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, Hammad’s research focuses on improving recovery and function following upper limb reconstruction and advancing modern techniques in microsurgery. As a mentor and educator, Hammad is passionate about teaching future surgeons and medical students the values of skill, curiosity, and patient-centered care.
