Marshall Health Network appoints Cremeans, Baisden to lead primary care service line
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Health Network has established two new leadership positions to guide the continued development of a unified primary care service line across its academic health system. Gary Cremeans, M.D., has been appointed physician executive of the primary care service line, and Barry Baisden has been named vice president of the primary care service line.
Together, Cremeans and Baisden will serve in a dyad leadership model, guiding the strategic growth and integration of primary care services across Marshall Health Network. Working in tandem with the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s departments of family and community health and internal medicine, they will strengthen collaboration between clinical care and academic medicine while expanding access, improving quality and advancing population health throughout the region.
“Primary care is the foundation of healthier communities,” said Larry D. Dial, M.D., chief physician executive for Marshall Health Network and vice dean for clinical affairs at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “By establishing these new leadership roles, we are creating a unified vision for primary care that brings together our hospitals and physician practices. Dr. Cremeans and Barry are exceptionally well positioned to lead this effort and strengthen access to coordinated, high-quality care across the communities we serve.”
A board-certified family medicine physician, Cremeans has served Marshall Health Network in a variety of clinical, academic and leadership roles for more than 24 years. In addition to leading the primary care service line, he serves as division chief of primary care for the integrated group practice, director of urgent care, chair of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine admissions committee and associate professor in the department of family and community health.
Baisden brings more than 20 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in physician services, ambulatory operations and healthcare technology. Most recently, he served as director of physician services at Marshall Health Network – Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he managed administrative and financial operations for employed physician practices, led initiatives to improve provider productivity and clinic performance and partnered with physicians on recruitment, retention and practice growth.
As physician executive, Cremeans will provide clinical leadership for the primary care service line, partnering with Baisden to advance clinical excellence, provider engagement and alignment with the academic missions of education, research and faculty development. As vice president, Baisden will lead the operational, strategic and financial development of the service line, working alongside physicians and executive leaders to expand access, improve performance and support sustainable growth across the network.
