Dr. Hillary Porter of Marshall Health Network named 2025 West Virginia Pediatrician of the Year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Hillary N. Porter, D.O., associate professor of pediatrics at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and board-certified pediatrician, psychologist and child and adolescent psychiatrist with Marshall Health Network, has been named the 2025 West Virginia Pediatrician of the Year by the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics in recognition of her dedication to children’s health and advocacy for patients and families across the state. 

Porter was recognized during the 2026 West Virginia AAP Annual Summit in Charleston. The annual award honors pediatricians who demonstrate outstanding commitment to patient care, child advocacy, education and improving the health and well-being of children throughout West Virginia. 

Porter has served as a faculty physician with the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall Health Network since 2017. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of common pediatric and adolescent mental health disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, aggression, autism spectrum disorder and depression. Her work focuses on improving access to behavioral health services for children and adolescents across the region, particularly in underserved and rural communities. 

Porter has also played a role in expanding access to mental health services for children and families in both Summers County, West Virginia, and Lawrence County, Ohio, through partnerships focused on increasing behavioral health resources and early intervention support. In addition to caring for patients, she is actively involved in training and mentoring medical students and resident physicians as part of Marshall’s academic mission. 

Throughout her career, Porter has been recognized for her compassionate approach to patient care and her commitment to advancing pediatric mental health through clinical care, education and advocacy. 

The West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics represents pediatricians committed to promoting the health, safety and well-being of children across the state and annually recognizes physicians who have made significant contributions to pediatric care and child advocacy in West Virginia.
