Marshall Health Network welcomes new pediatric physicians
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Health Network (MHN) announces the addition of six pediatric physicians whose expertise spans general pediatrics, hospital medicine, neonatal care, palliative care and critical care, further strengthening access to pediatric services across the region.
Marshall Health Network provides a broad range of pediatric care—from routine well-child visits and immunizations to highly specialized care for medically complex children. With the addition of these physicians, patients and families will have expanded access to care at Marshall Health Network – Hoops Family Children’s Hospital and three outpatient Marshall Pediatrics locations.
The new physicians joining Marshall Health Network include:
- Kara V. Anderson, M.D., brings pediatric palliative care to MHN, supporting children with serious or complex medical conditions by focusing on symptom management, quality of life and family-centered decision-making. She sees patients at Marshall Pediatrics – Huntington and Edwards Cancer Institute. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
- Jaime L. Basham, D.O., specializes in pediatric hospital medicine, caring for children who require inpatient treatment and coordination between hospital and outpatient pediatric care teams. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
- Barry “B.J.” Belcher, M.D., is a board-certified general pediatrician who focuses exclusively on acute care for children at Marshall Pediatrics – NowCare, providing walk-in services for sick visits and urgent pediatric needs. He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics.
- Richard Johnson, M.D., is a pediatric critical care specialist providing advanced care for critically ill infants, children and adolescents in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.
- Jessica Y. Roth, M.D., is a general pediatrician providing comprehensive pediatric care, including preventive services such as well-child visits and immunizations, as well as evaluation and treatment of acute childhood illnesses at Marshall Pediatrics – Teays Valley.
- Lauren M. Thompson, M.D., is a fellowship-trained neonatologist specializing in the care of newborns, including premature and medically complex infants at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. Thompson brings more than 7 years of experience as a general pediatrician to her new role in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
As part of an academic health system, these Marshall Health Network pediatric providers also serve as assistant professors at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, combining clinical excellence with education and research, ensuring children and families benefit from team-based, evidence-driven care.
