Marshall Health Network adds five pediatricians to its care team

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Health Network recently welcomed five pediatricians to its team of providers.  

Rita M. Ryan, M.D., professor and chair of pediatrics at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, is a board-certified neonatologist and nationally recognized neonatal lung specialist. She brings extensive experience as a clinician and pediatric leader, including previous service as pediatrician-in-chief at the Medical University of South Carolina and senior attending neonatologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. 

Throughout her career, Ryan has led pediatric clinical programs and neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowships while caring for critically ill newborns. Her clinical and research interests include neonatal lung disease, prematurity and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Ryan earned her medical degree and completed her pediatric residency at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, before completing a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She sees patients at Marshall Health Network – Hoops Family Children’s Hospital.  

Kevin B. Spicer, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., is a board-certified pediatric infectious diseases specialist and serves as associate professor and chief of pediatric infectious diseases at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. A Raleigh County, West Virginia, native, he has practiced general pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases in rural and urban communities across the United States and in South Africa. Spicer also spent seven years as a medical epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His interests include hospital epidemiology, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship and general pediatric infectious diseases.  

Spicer earned his doctorate from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, before completing his residency at The Ohio State University/Columbus Children’s Hospital and fellowship training at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, both in Columbus, Ohio. For appointments, call Marshall Pediatrics in Huntington at 304-691-1300. 

Meredith Garst, M.D., is a pediatrician specializing in pediatric hospital medicine and newborn care at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. She also serves as an assistant professor at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Garst earned her medical degree from the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky, and completed her pediatric residency and pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. She provides care exclusively in the hospital setting at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. 

Corey McBrayer, D.O., M.P.H., is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine, addiction medicine, obesity medicine, and patient safety and quality improvement. He earned his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. He completed his pediatric residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia, followed by fellowships in adolescent medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and addiction medicine at OhioHealth. He previously served as a pediatrician and assistant professor at Penn State Health. Saubhagyi Singh, M.D., is a general pediatrician and assistant professor at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Patan Academy of Health Sciences School of Medicine in Nepal and completed her pediatric residency at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Singh provides primary care for children and young adults through age 21 at Marshall Pediatrics in Huntington, where she also sees walk-in patients at Marshall Pediatrics – NowCare.
